"If nothing else works, go for a ride."
I heard this advice recently, and I couldn’t agree more—I’d wholeheartedly pass it on to my friends and family!
Babies sometimes struggle to settle themselves, and a car ride can work wonders. The snug fit of the car seat, the rhythmic hum of the engine, and the gentle motion all seem to have a soothing effect. There have been many times when, after trying everything else, I’ve buckled up my little one, gone for a drive, and watched as they finally relaxed and drifted off to sleep.
But this advice isn’t just for the baby—it’s for the parents, too. When you’re feeling stressed, your back aches from endless rocking, and you’re in desperate need of a break, a ride can be a simple but powerful reset. Driving to grab a coffee while listening to your favorite podcast or music can be nourishing, even if your baby doesn’t fall asleep. Sometimes, it’s about taking a moment for yourself while giving your baby a change of scenery.
So if nothing else seems to work, give it a try. You might find that a car ride isn’t just a solution for the baby—it’s a little gift for you, too.
