"Start the child in the way they should go"

She continued to read the following verses from the Bible: "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." - Deuteronomy 6:4-9

As parents, we share our values and beliefs with our children. We are their first teachers. If you believe in God's love, talk about it when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

This advice was a good reminder to me to practice my faith and share it with my children all throughout my day.

Sidenote - I love that Virtual Baby Showers are an opportunity to pass on advice from your actual friends and family. They often share the same values and priorities as the expectant mom. Their advice is also precious because it is from people who the expectant mom has a relationship with. She knows some of their story and has context for their advice. This advice was given from someone who loved Sacred Scripture and knew the expectant Mom would take these words and reminders to heart.
